Description

This outdoor classroom was designed by Architecture students in consultation with Education Studies students and was shortlisted for the
RIBAJ MacEwan Award 2020.

Built around a central feature fire pit, the design shelters the windy hillside that has been unusable for 10 years due to the exposed position.

The scheme had to include locally sourced recycled timber; in the
end the entire structure (with the exception of a brick surround for the fire pit) was constructed of recycled materials, including 130 timber pallets. These were deconstructed, made safe of any sharp nails and treated in a wood workshop before being transported to site for construction.
